Into the Garden - April 2025
Strawberry Season is coming!
So you’re ready to harvest your own home-grown strawberries the best time to plant the strawberries is now. They will start to flower in May and June, and their fruit will start to be ripened from June until September. They are happy to grow in stackable strawberry planters, hanging baskets and window boxes
Plant your bulbs
These will be more than happy to be outside from next month, once the last of the frost has gone, they like moist yet well drained soil so make sure you pick a plant pot which has good drainage
Sunflowers
Get the children involved in the garden and start growing Sunflowers, they can be planted outside after the last frost (usually the end of April). These plants like to be able to put their roots down, so make sure they have a deep pot to live in and as they grow you need to add a stabilising stake to prevent them from falling in the wind.
Once the sunflower has flowered and turns brown, take the head and hang somewhere dry and airy, when the seeds are dry you can leave these outside for your feathered friends to enjoy.
